Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap for January 28, 2025

The Kern County Board of Supervisors met today as scheduled for Tuesday’s January 28, 2025, Board Meeting. Supervisor Phillip Peters (District 1), Supervisor Chris Parlier (District 2), Supervisor Jeff Flores (District 3), Supervisor David Couch (District 4), and Chairwoman Leticia Perez (District 5) were in attendance. Meeting Highlights: 

  • Item No. 1 AM session:
  • The Board voted to proclaim February 2025 as Grand Jury Awareness Month in Kern County.
  • Item No. 2 AM session:
  • The Board voted to proclaim February 2025 as Safely Surrendered Baby Awareness Month in Kern County.
  • Item No. 12 AM session:
  • The Board voted to approve an agreement with The Open Door Network Operational Agreements to enhance assistance available for crime victims in Kern County through September of 2027.
  • Item No. 18 AM session:
  • The Board held a discussion on recommendations for a Standing Committee on Finance and Administration regarding items affecting local elections including organizational changes for the Registrar of Voters function.
  • The Board made and approved a motion for “Option 3,” which pursues changes to law at State and federal levels, which would be appropriate to refer to the Board’s Standing Legislative Program Committee.

  • Item No. 20 AM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with La Cooperativa Campesina de California for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act to provide training services through the Dislocated Agricultural Worker Program through December of 2025.
  • Item No. 25 AM session:
  • The Board approved the Kern County Fire Department’s request for a mid-year capital asset acquisition of one additional Type 1 helicopter to enhance the department’s operational readiness to combat wildfires.
  • Item No. 29 AM session:
  • The Board approved Kern County Human Services accepting an in-kind donation from Pine Mountain Scrappers Quilt Guild for handmade quilts, pillowcases, and booties for the A. Miriam Jamison Children’s Center to support and comfort local foster youth.
  • Item No. 30 AM session:
  • The Board approved the Kern County Library’s request to accept a $20,000 donation from California Resources Corporation to fund interactive STEAM Workshops at the McFarland Library.
  • Item No. 33 AM session:
  • The Board approved Kern County Public Health’s request to continue the local health emergency declared due to the potentially hazardous conditions that exist due to the Borel Fire.
  • Items No. 36 PM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with the Tejon Gaming Authority for tenant improvements at the Fire and Sheriff Joint Substation located at the I-5/Highway 99 Corridor to ensure the safety of the surrounding community.
  • Item No. 40 PM session:
  • The Board voted to contribute $5,000 to the Veterans Memorial, $500 to Southern Christian Leadership, $1,100 to North of the River Recreation and Park District, $100 to Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra, and $500 to the Kern County Asian Chamber of Commerce.
  • Item No. 41 PM session:
  • The Board voted to contribute $783 to the Richard Prado Senior Center.
  • Item No. 42 PM session:
  • The Board voted to contribute $500 to the Taft College Foundation.
